What Happened to William Hung?

It was 2004 when William Hung was catapulted into reality TV-stardom via his off-key yet hilarious rendition of Ricky Martin’s catchy tune “She Bangs” in American Idol. Twelve years later, the Hong Kong native has got himself recently married and is now contently working for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“American Idol” judge Simon Cowell may have deemed Hung as one of the worst singers he’d ever seen during his memorable audition, but many found his performance charmingly goofy, turning him into an instant global darling.

In an interview back in 2008, Hung gave his take on his mass appeal: “I believe it’s my attitude and charisma, I tell people constantly, media, everywhere I go, just never give up on your dream.”

While the 33-year old performer left the limelight almost as sudden as he entered, he was able to accomplish several achievements during his brief career despite being eliminated very early on in the competition.

His popularity allowed him to perform in front of thousands, land a record contract and release several albums before eventually deciding to live away from the spotlight.

Hung now works at the LA County Sheriffs Department as a Technical Crime Analyst, where he analyzes trends and patterns in crimes to help law enforcement deploy resources more effectively. His job plays a crucial role in arresting suspects, solving and preventing crimes.

According to People Magazine, Hung married 31-year old licensed vocational nurse Jian Teng on June 18 in Alhambra, California.

“She’s a fantastic wife and I’m glad to have somebody to support me,” the memorable American Idol contestant revealed.

It was not reported if William Hung captured Teng’s heart with one of his serenades.
