Thai Netizens Express Their Grief for King’s Death on Social Media

The passing of Thailand’s beloved king on Thursday night has left the entire country in grief. In mourning of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s death, many Thai netizens turned their social media accounts black and expressed the pain of their loss via photos and messages.
His Majesty, who during his 70-year reign helped unify the nation, passed away at 88 years old.
Thousands of people had previously gathered at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital where the revered king was being treated, hoping that their king would survive, reported CNN.
Following the official announcement of the terrible news by the Royal Household Bureau, the crowd erupted in loud wailing as many were not able to hold back tears.
Overwhelmed with sadness, many social media users changed their profile photos to black-and-white to express their feelings of loss, according to The Nation. Messages of grief also flooded the internet across social media platforms.
On Twitter, the hashtag “May I be your humble servant forever more” became a trending topic in Thailand as Thais expressed their love and respect for King Bhumibol.
On Instagram, the grieving Thais also posted photos of the king and messages of support.
