A school-sanctioned event at a Taiwanese high school was strongly denounced by the Israeli government after several students marched in a parade wearing Nazi uniforms.
Hsinchu’s Kuangfu Senior High School students from the sophomore media and design class not only sported Nazi outfits but also marched with cardboard tank props while giving the “Sieg Heil” salute, reported the China Post.

Photos of the high school’s “Christmas and Thanksgiving Costume Parade” emerged online last Friday and has since been widely shared on social media.

“It is deplorable and shocking that seven decades only after the world has witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust, a high-school in Taiwan is supporting such an outrageous action,” Israel’s representative office said in a statement to Taiwan on Saturday.

Israel asked Taiwan’s government to initiate a program to educate students of all levels to the meaning of the Holocaust, stating that Taiwanese schools should “educate for tolerance and understanding among people.”

The Taiwanese government apologized for the incident and ordered an investigation of the matter and vowed to improve education on the sensitive subject. As punishment, funding to the private school would reportedly be reduced.
In an official statement, the Presidential Office called the incident, “especially disrespectful to the Jewish people’s suffering at the hands of war and represents ignorance toward modern history.”
Earlier today, Chen Hsiao-ming, the schools principle, announced that he takes full responsibility for the ordeal, apologized, and announced his resignation.
“As educators, we should have taught students to have the right values.” Cheng said. “We will learn from the mistakes we made and have asked students to do so too.”
