The Philippines is Deporting 1,318 Illegal Chinese Immigrants

Over a thousand Chinese citizens who have been found to be illegally staying in the Philippines will be deported back to China, the Philippines’ immigration office revealed.

Last week, the country’s Bureau of Immigration arrested 1,318 Chinese nationals at the Fontana Leisure Park in Clark, Pampanga, Philippines over suspicion of violating local immigration laws. Acting out on the directive of the Department of Justice, the immigration department carried out the operation based on a tip that Chinese nationals were illegally operating their business in the park.

According to Inquirer.net, the agency found out that the foreigners, who entered the country as tourists, have gone beyond their authorized period of stay and violating the conditions of their visas. The Chinese tourists were also found to be engaged in an illegal online gaming business.

“The 1,318 Chinese will be charged for overstaying, working in violation of the limitations and conditions of their visa, and engaging in an unlicensed online gaming business,” Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Tonette Mangrobang said.

The findings were based on the investigations conducted by the BI’s Legal Division. Neither the name nor owner of the gambling firm were stated in the report. No further details were revealed about the foreigners involvement in the illegal activities.

The massive arrest, which was conducted last Thursday, was reportedly the biggest arrest of suspected illegal aliens that the Bureau has ever made.

While the agency is already preparing for the arrested foreigners’ summary deportation, Mangrobang stated that the agency’s Board of Commissioners would would also deliberate on the defense presented by China before deciding on the final verdict on how the foreigners will be deported.
