This year’s title for Miss Grand International, a pageant which began in 2013 with the vision to ‘Stop the War and Violence,’ was won by Miss Indonesia Ariska Putri Pertiwi. The 21-year-old, who also won Best National Costume in the pageant, beat out 70 other candidates from different parts of the world on Tuesday evening, October 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Miss Philippines won first runner-up, while candidates from Thailand, Puerto Rico and United States captured the second, third and the fourth runners-up respectively.
“Indonesia, we did it!,” Pertiwi said after she was crowned. “I just want to say thank you to all my fans, supporters, family. Thank you very much to you all. You guys are the best.”
Miss Indonesia explained she is ready to travel the world, saying, “I’m ready to walk together with Miss International organization to stop war and violence.”
The pageant’s final question saw the contestants having to choose between the two U.S. presidential candidates, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, in which they would partner with in order to end war and violence.
Miss Indonesia chose Clinton, whom she called “wise,” saying that they could stop war and violence if they worked together. Miss Thailand and Miss Puerto Rico also preferred Clinton over Trump.
Miss Philippines Nicole Cordoves, who was an early audience favorite, chose Donald Trump. A sizable crowd erupted in boos when she revealed her choice. According to Cordova, if she was able to convince Trump to be on her side, there would no longer be war or violence. Miss United States also picked Trump.
This is the first time Indonesia has won a major international beauty pageant.
