Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh has fulfilled her promise to bring her Oscar trophy back home to her mother in Ipoh, Malaysia.
Yeoh, 60, shared the heartwarming moment on Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday. The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actor shared two pictures in her post, one of which shows her mother, Janet Yeoh, happily holding her trophy for best actress.
Brought Mr.O home…. Without my parents love and trust and support… I wouldn’t be here today… love so much,” Yeoh wrote in her posts.
The other picture shows Yeoh with her trophy in front of her late father’s grave.
Yeoh won the best actress award at the 95th Academy Awards on March 13, where “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won seven of its 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture.
During her acceptance speech, Yeoh dedicated her award to her mother, who was watching the historic moment in Malaysia.
I have to dedicate this [award] to my mom, all the moms in the world because they are really the superheroes, and without them, none of us would be here tonight,” she said. “I’m taking this home to her. She’s watching right now in Malaysia, KL, with my family and friends. I love you guys. I’m bringing this home to you.”
The “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” actor was reportedly in Malaysia for Qing Ming 2023 and spent a few days in Ipoh with her mother and their family, a source told The Star.
After she visited her family, Yeoh reportedly flew to Hong Kong. The “Crazy Rich Asians” star is expected to return to Malaysia on April 18, where she will appear at the “Pride of Malaysia Michelle Yeoh Homecoming Public Fan Meet” at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
Many Facebook users congratulated Yeoh, who made history as the first Asian-identifying actor to win an Oscar for best actress.
This brought me goosebumps. Never forget your root. You are such a wonderful role model for ALL,” one Facebook user wrote.
