A 4-year-old boy had his arm ripped off in front of his panicked mother after it got stuck in a working escalator at a shopping mall in Nanchang, Jiangxi province in southeastern China.
Surveillance footage of the incident on June 1 shows the child, whose name is unknown, attempting to climb up an escalator that is moving down.
But as his mother approaches him, the boy suddenly slips and falls, getting his arm stuck inside the machine.
The horrified mom tries to pull her son free and shouts for help as onlookers rush in to press the emergency stop button.
Unfortunately, it was already too late as the escalators had already ripped the boy’s arm off at the elbow.

According to Shanghaiist, the boy was immediately taken to the Nanchang Shuguang hospital where he underwent an emergency operation for several hours.
While the doctors were able to reattach his arm, the poor child will be kept under supervision for at least a few weeks to make sure that the blood flow through his arm continues to run smoothly.
In a statement, Rainbow Shopping Centre confirmed the incident and said employees at the mall took emergency measure to rescue the boy before he was rushed off to the hospital, The Sun reported.
