Ye, commonly known as Kanye West, has made a surprising comeback on Instagram by announcing a collaboration with Muji designer Naoto Fukasawa and McDonald’s.
The Atlanta-based rapper took to his completely wiped Instagram account on Monday to announce that he has teamed up with Fukasawa to “reimagine McDonald’s packaging.” His post has garnered over 1.5 million likes and 21,000 comments so far.
Ye also posted an Instagram Story featuring a box that could be the latest packaging for a McDonald’s sandwich. Below the box, he wrote, “next week it’s the fries,” a line from his 2005 “Late Registration” song “Gold Digger.”
While Ye mentioned Fukasawa in his Instagram post, the Japanese industrial designer, best known for working with Japanese retailer Muji, has yet to make any comment about the purported project.
Several of Ye’s fans were surprised by his comeback on Instagram, especially considering that the rapper has been quiet on the social media platform for months following his temporary ban in March.
Gotta say though, Ye making his Instagram return with a post about McDonald’s was not what I was expecting for his comeback lol,” rapper Thomas Iannucci commented on Ye’s post.
Do the combo come w balenci boots,” rapper Lil Gnar wrote.
This is random as hell,” another Instagram user commented.
Ye’s fans and critics also took to Twitter to talk about the purported project.

Ye’s collaboration with McDonald’s may not come as a surprise for many of his followers. In 2018, the artist tweeted his love for the fast-food chain, writing, “McDonald’s is my favorite restaurant.”
