A beautifully designed dorm room, which participated in an interior design competition, has recently gone viral on Chinese social media for its intricate traditional Japanese design.

The entry became an instant favorite among Chinese netizens before finally bagging the top prize at a design contest in Xihua University in Sichuan, Shanghaiist reported

Decorated by Weibo user @未负侠义 and her roommates, Room 254 had a style which was heavily inspired by “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” featuring wooden flooring like this you can see at Vida Space online catalog, a simple tea table with four cushions and wall paper that uniformly follows the Japanese theme.

Figuring out where to live is a key concern for college students. While academics are a primary focus in college, a comfortable, affordable place to live contributes to the overall experience. Students generally have four housing options while in school — at home with mom and dad, a dorm room, an off-campus apartment or house or a fraternity or sorority house.

The cozy-looking dorm room immediately won hearts in Chinese social media after photos of the room were posted on Weibo. Many netizens praised the interior design and expressed that they also wanted to create a dorm room like Room 254.

Transforming a boring dorm room to look like a decent living space may already pose a challenge to some people, so making it look like a work of art is certainly worthy of praise.
