After stealing valuables from Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, an Indonesian domestic helper found herself behind bars for 18 months on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old maid, identified as Rospeni, stole about HKD $561,400 (over $72,000) worth of valuables from Cheung’s flat, South China Morning Post reported. Items included two diamonds, three handbags, three pairs of earrings, three pairs of shoes, five bracelets, six rings and some pendants.
Rospeni’s robbing spree occurred between February 2016 and March 2016. She worked for Cheung between March 2014 and June 2016.

She was caught on June 28, the last day of her employment, when Cheung’s assistant found the items in her luggage.
Rospeni was reported to authorities. During the trial, her lawyer argued that she struggled with finances, “The valuables spread around in the flat were a temptation to her.”
However, judge Frankie Yiu Fun-che determined that the theft was serious and sentenced Rospeni to 18 months in jail.
This is not the first time a foreign helper messed up in Hong Kong. Last month, one allegedly burned the neck of her employer’s 15-month old baby.
Cecilia Cheung is known for her roles in “Out of Control”, “Dangerous Liaisons”, “Legendary Amazons”, “The Shopaholics” and “Shaolin Soccer”, among others.
