A Filipino lawmaker has filed a bill at Philippines’ House of Representatives barring U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump from entering the country.
The bill was a response to Trump’s recent statements branding the Philippines as one of the “terrorist nations” plotting to wreak havoc on U.S. soil, The Philippine Star reported.
“There is no feasible basis or reasonable justification to the wholesale labeling of Filipinos as coming from a ‘terrorist state’ or that they will be a Trojan horse,” Philippine Congressman Jose “Joey” Salceda said.
The bill, filed by the Albay representative as House Resolution No.43, seeks to ban Trump from the Southeast Asian country for being “inimical to the national interest.” Salceda denounced the presidential candidate’s speech against immigrants, which aligned the Philippines among “terror nations.”

“Whereas, there is no feasible basis or reasonable justification to the wholesale labeling of Filipinos as coming from a ‘terrorist state’ or that they will be a Trojan horse,” Salceda wrote in his resolution.
Salceda cited Bureau of Immigration and Deportation Memorandum Order No. ADD-01-005 which lists grounds to deny foreign nationals entry into the Philippines.
During Trump’s recent speech in Portland, Maine, he implied that Filipinos were among those plotting against the U.S. Warning Americans to be cautious of immigrants, Trump declared immigration as comparable to a Trojan horse, where terrorists could spring out and destroy America.
“We are letting people come in from terrorist nations,” said Trump. “An immigrant from Afghanistan who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, an illegal permanent resident from the Philippines were convicted for plotting to join al-Qaeda and the Taliban in order to kill as many Americans as possible.”
Philippines’ Communications Secretary Andanar recalled when Trump was all praises about the Philippines while promoting his Trump Tower:
“In fact, Mr Trump has even professed his love for the Philippines during the launch of his 57-story luxury apartment in Makati. He did say, ‘I’ve always loved the Philippines. I think it is just a special place, and Manila is one of Asia’s most spectacular cities. I know that this project (Trump Tower) will be second to none.’”
In an interview with government-run dzRB, Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella expressed that the outspoken Republican bet was just speaking in broad strokes and doesn’t really know what he was talking about.
In the resolution, Salceda stated that as a major presidential candidate of the most powerful country in the world, Trump’s “remarks have had widespread dissemination, thus aggravating the shame it has already put Filipinos and Filipino Muslims, including Filipino migrants and overseas Filipino workers who this House and our society have recognized as modern heroes of our country.”
Trump’s statements, according to Salceda, demonstrated “negative, dysfunctionally nativist, aggressively adversarial attitude towards immigrants in the USA. where he aspires to be the leader.”
As of 2014, Filipino immigrants account for 4.5% of the 42.4 million total immigrant population in the United States, the fourth largest among foreign-born groups in the country.
