Disney+ has officially announced the release date of its highly anticipated series “American Born Chinese” in a teaser that features the stars of “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
In the teaser posted ahead of the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday, the streaming service announced that “American Born Chinese” will be available for streaming starting on May 24.
The 30-second clip, titled “Worlds Collide,” notably features Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh, who play Freddy Wong and Guanyin, the deity of compassion, respectively.
“Worlds Collide” also teases other Chinese mythological deities, including Daniel Wu’s Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from the Chinese epic “Journey to the West.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, “American Born Chinese” follows Jin Wang (played by Ben Wang), a high school student whose life is turned upside down after he becomes entangled in an epic battle between the gods of Chinese mythology.
The upcoming show is a TV adaptation of Gene Luen Yang’s 2006 graphic novel of the same name.
The Disney+ series’ regular cast members include Wang, Yeoh, Quan, Wu, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jimmy Liu and Sydney Taylor. Special guest stars include James Hong, Ronny Chieng and Jimmy O. Yang, among many others.
